Prof. Adesina Sodiya

SODIYA A. Simon is a Professor of Computer Science and Cybersecurity, currently in the Department of Computer Science, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria. He completed his Ph.D in Computer Science in 2004 with a focus on Information Security. His core areas of research are Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Software Engineering. He has taught courses in Computer Science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
As a pioneer researcher in the field of Information Security in Nigeria, he has over twenty-five years’ experience in conducting high impact research in Cybersecurity, Attack/Intrusion Detection, Authentication Systems, Cryptography, Systems’ Security, Privacy Protection, and Security of Distributed Systems. He is also focusing on applications of artificial intelligence in agriculture and healthcare. Prof. Sodiya is currently the Lead / Principal Investigator of Artificial Intelligence Applications for One Health (AIA4OneHealth), a newly established research hub. He has supervised eleven Ph.D. and twenty-five Masters Students in different areas of Information Security and Computer Science. He is presently serving as Postgraduate External Examiner/Assessor in about five universities locally and internationally. He has published over hundred and twenty (120) scholarly articles in local and international journals. He has also presented papers at both local and international conferences, resulting in about twenty papers in referred conference proceedings.
In his university, he served as Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator between 2008 and 2013 and acting Head of Computer Science Department between 2013 and 2015. He is a member of University Senate and also currently serving many other university academic committees such as Curriculum Committee, College Promotion Assessment Promotion Panels and so on. He served as a member of Appointment and Promotion Committed of the university between 2023 and 2026. He was the Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Computer Science and Its Applications between 2011 to 2013 and International Journal of Information Security, Privacy and Digital Forensic (IJIS-PDF) between 2015 to 2018. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of IJIS-PDF.
In 2010, he won TWAS-AAS-MICROSFT Award for outstanding Computer Science researcher living and working in Africa. He has also won several leadership, excellence in Research and professional awards.
As is a core professional, Sodiya A. S. is a fellow of Nigeria Computer Society and served as Vice-President/Vice Chairman of Computer Professional (Registration council) of Nigeria –CPN between 2015 and 2017. He is a past President of Information Technology Systems and Security Professionals (ITSSP). He is a member of International Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE). He is a member of two technical committees of International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) – ICT and Education TC-3 and Security and Privacy Protection in Information Processing Systems (TC-11). He is a member of Global Commission for the Stability of Cyberspace. He is the current Ogun State Technical Adviser for Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB). Sodiya A. S. is the Immediate Past President of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS). He was the Chairman, Board of Diplomate, Digital Forensic, Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN). He is also a member and Chairman Advisory Board of Practical Artificial Intelligence Development Foundation (PAIDeF).
Prof. Sodiya is a current council member of Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) –CPN and was a member of the government board of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). He also represented Nigeria Computer Society on the Broadband Implementation committee of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy He served as a member of Presidential Committee on Digital Economy and e-government between 2021 and 2023.
Prof. Sodiya is married to Prof. (Mrs.) Comfort I. Sodiya and the marriage is blessed with children.
